Get As in your exams!

What’s the Best Way to Get Ready for Your Exams? Check Out Our Top Five Study Tips!

Many of you will now be in the thick of the examination period so you’ll already be in study mode. We can always improve our study skills, though, so here are some great study tips to help you get the best possible marks!

1. Study alone

Group study sessions can be a lot of fun, however if you need to get some serious study done, it’s best to study alone, as group sessions can get off-topic quickly and might be covering areas that aren’t the most important for you.

2. Create your perfect study zone

Your study zone should be a place that is quiet, comfortable and free from distractions. Just make sure you remove as many distractions in your zone as possible. It’s best to have no music on, definitely no television and stay well away from the internet. Oh… and make sure that you turn off your phone! Once you’ve done an hour or two, you can reward yourself with a few minutes to check Facebook and reply to your text messages!

3. Make sure you are prepped

Get all your study materials together before you get into study mode. Make sure you have all your books, notes, study guides and writing utensils in front of you. If you’ve got to keep getting up to get things, it means you’ll likely get distracted from the task at hand.

4. Turn your notes into flash cards

Flash cards are an excellent way to test your memory. As you read through important facts, rewrite them in Q&A form on some plain cards.  For example, to study historical facts, write the historical fact on one side of the card and the key details on the other side.

5. Snack wisely and healthy while you study

To stay sharp while you study, stay away from junk food! Snack on dark leafy greens, whole grains, peanut butter and milk or water. Feeling sluggish? Caffeine or energy drinks won't help you in the long run. Get your energy boost instead by eating a banana or an apple. By all means timetable exercise into your study days; it can help to keep your mind fresh, but don’t allow it to become an excuse for staying away from the books!
