New Café at Crown Causes Waves!

Crown students and staff no longer need to venture out of the campus to find scrumptious muffins, coffee and lunches!

At Crown, we are continually trying to find opportunities for our students to gain valuable work experience. Crown hospitality students are helping run the café and the skills they are learning are going towards completing their unit standards.

The Ripple café was one of the school’s initiatives for students to learn how to operate their own café and to be trained in running a business. Commercial Café owners Max and Vivienne are really keen to show students how to run a professional café, alongside providing great food and beverages at reasonable prices!

Max and Viv also own VMax Café which is situated in the funky Wynyard Quarter where their main clientele are bankers, lawyers and other business people. Their combined knowledge of award-winning barista skills and a long history in hospitality is going to really inspire our students to be the best they can be!

The food is made fresh every day and is very tasty indeed. From delicious sandwiches, salads and curries, to cakes and muffins, there is a wide variety of food to suit everyone’s tastes.

Students will acquire invaluable skills from this experience. At Crown, we find that graduates who have relevant work experience in the industry step into the workforce much faster than those without it.

The name The Ripple, originates from the business partners’ love of liquids: perfectly-extracted espressos, velvety blended smoothies shared with friends and the new location of the café which boasts sea views. The Ripple – A ripple of laughter, coffee with a peep of the sea, food and fun with friends.

Our comprehensive 42 week Food and Beverage Service and Hotel Services and Reception Operations qualifications will equip you with everything you need for a long and successful career in hospitality.

Alternatively, we also offer a variety of shorter hospitality courses, ranging from 14 to 28 weeks in length. You are free to choose the qualification that best fits your needs and time limitations.

Finally, our widely recognised and highly regarded 56 week National Diploma in Hospitality Management qualification is perfect for those looking to gain a thorough and detailed understanding of the skills required to work in the hospitality sector.

Build Your Employability: Gain Work Experience While You Study at Crown

At Crown we understand the importance of our students gaining valuable work experience. Real skills and experience give you employability and are essential for even an entry-level role in the hospitality industry!

Graduates from Crown who have had some work experience are more successful in finding jobs in their chosen industry, as they have been exposed to the working world while studying.

Three of Crown's Travel, Tourism & Airline Studies Certificate students had the great opportunity to help the lovely people at Discover America at their event at SkyCity last week. Their main role at the event was to meet and greet travel agents and direct them to their seats. Eunice Heywood Almario, Venus Hertz Alviola and Reece Main only started their course at Crown on 3 February 2014 and have been able to network with industry people already!

The recent NRL Auckland Nines competition was another opportunity for Crown students to gain valuable paid work experience with Function Staff. Students worked in various roles at Eden Park from Corporate Box Hosts to Duty Managers.  In fact seven of Crown’s current students and recent graduates were Duty Managers at the event!

This weekend, approximately ten students will be working at Mt Smart Stadium for the Bruce Springsteen concert!

How we help pave our students way to success!

It’s always fantastic for us to hear about our graduates’ successes! Check out what a couple of our graduates have to say about Crown and how we helped them pave their way to success.

Nikita Gillard – Sales Consultant

I absolutely love Crown! They have taught me so much about what I do in my current job. The role-plays are what helped me the most.

The Crown Certificate in International Travel, Tourism and Airline Studies is a course I would highly recommend. I have learnt some amazing skills from my experience at Crown. I have made lifelong friends that I still contact even a year after finishing my course.
I have friends who attended two other travel colleges and they felt let down by their experience and felt like it was a waste of money. I have never felt that about Crown.

The tutors are awesome, friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable in what they teach. I 100% recommend this course to anyone who wants to study Travel and Tourism.

Zaynah Begum – Food and Beverage Attendant, Sky City Convention Centre

Thanks to Crown, I have managed to excel in my role as a Food and Beverage Attendant at Sky City Convention Centre! Crown taught me everything I ever needed to know about the hospitality industry!

I would recommend that anyone who wants to gain knowledge about hospitality or is interested to learn about the dynamics of food and beverage to join Crown!

Crown travel and hospitality students opportunity to visit Fiji!

Crown Institute recognises the importance of learning outside of the classroom and as part of the program of field trips and guest speakers; we offer the opportunity for students to take part in an optional educational experience overseas.

The trip is offered to students studying Travel, Tourism, Hotel and Hospitality courses at Crown Institute.  This year students will be travelling to Viti Levu Island, Fiji for six days in August. The trip will be arranged through STA travel. Flights are with Air Pacific and the destination transport and activities are with Feejee Experience.

Students hoping to work in the hotel, travel and tourism industry will benefit from an exciting tourism and travel experience. Most industry organisations require their staff to have knowledge of overseas operations and the South West Pacific is a top destination for New Zealand travellers. So, where better to gain experience and develop knowledge than at the destination itself.  Students will have the opportunity to develop their industry knowledge first hand, by experiencing a range of transport, accommodation, attractions and activities overseas and gain valuable skills working with others, researching destinations and selling.  They will enjoy the chance to experience different sights, cultures and activities to build their confidence and knowledge of the exciting hospitality, travel and tourism industry.

Places are still available on Crown Institutes Travel, Tourism, Hotel and Hospitality courses starting 25 March 2013.  Click HERE to complete an enrolment form or freephone the recruitment team on 0800 357 316.
