Hospitality Management students gain work experience at Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour

During the week of 20th June our National Diploma in Hospitality Management students had the opportunity to see what working is like at the Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour.  They each did two shifts, one morning and one evening at Lava Dining.

Before our students started they received a training session from Roxane, Sofitel's Training Manager.   They learnt about the Sofitel brand and their strict presentation and attitude guidelines all awhile being treated to a magnificent morning tea (including the most delicious french pastries) in their newly opened Wine Cellar.

The following week our students started their work experience. The breakfast shift was an early start for some, 7am, but they got to see first hand what running a breakfast buffet for an 170 room hotel is like.  They were guided by the friendly Food and Beverage team. The evening shift started at 6pm.  Students were able to assist during dinner service and even got to deliver some room service orders.  They met Executive Chef Sebastian Hinrichs who was previously the Head Chef for the French Cafe and creates some of the most amazing dishes.

All in all this has been a fantastic experience for our students and we like to thank the team at Sofitel Viaduct Harbour for the amazing opportunity.

National Diploma in Hospitality Management course – Gain three diplomas and a certificate in just 18 months of study!

The National Diploma in Hospitality Management (level five on the national framework) is a widely recognised and highly regarded qualification, not just in New Zealand, but overseas as well.  Crown Institute has been offering the course for over twelve years now and we’ve seen hundreds of graduates gain exciting jobs in a variety of different areas in the hospitality industry.
The Crown course is comprised of four fourteen-week terms, a total on just 56 weeks.  Each term students gain a thorough understanding of skills required to work in the hospitality sector including…

  1. Commercial accommodation management
  2. Business management
  3. Food and beverage management
  4. Human resource management

Along with the National Diploma in Hospitality Management students also gain the City & Guilds (London) Diploma in Reception Operations and Services and the National Certificate in Hospitality Front Office Level 3.

And by completing just three more business papers, you can also achieve the New Zealand Institute of Management (NZIM) Diploma in Management (level five).
That’s three diplomas and a certificate in only 18 months of study!
