An update from Walt Disney World, Florida!

An update from our Travel & Tourism graduate Teej, who is having an amazing time in on the Cultural Exchange Programme at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  We are so proud of you Teej!

Kia ora Crown whanau,

At the beginning of February, I moved across the world to Orlando, Florida to live my dream of working at Walt Disney World. I moved into Flamingo Crossings Village which is where most of the Disney cast members live while doing the Cultural Exchange Programme or the College Programme. This place is almost like living in a resort. It has two swimming pools with huge screens, a massive gym, basketball and volleyball courts, lots of hang out areas and a huge lawn. There is a shopping centre down the road which has lots of fast food restaurants and a Target for groceries. We also have free bus transport to the four theme parks and the 32 Disney resorts, which is great because we’re able to visit the parks and resorts for free on our days off!

I have moved into an apartment with three Americans – Abbie, Chynna, and Amber – who have been really welcoming and helpful while I navigate my new home. The same day I moved in, my roommate Abbie invited me to go to Magic Kingdom with her and ride the new attraction “Tron” which is only available for cast members and is not open to the public yet. I didn’t think I’d be in one of the theme parks a few hours after moving in!

I want to say a big thank you to Crown for preparing me for this once in a lifetime experience and for encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone to do this. I still cannot believe I’m actually here!

“My whole experience at Crown was absolutely the best. From being a shy & keeping to myself type of person, the staff at Crown managed to bring out a completely different side of me – I would say I changed a lot! Crown is a place filled with encouragement & support, a place I cherish the most because it is what helped me be more confident and outgoing as well as gain friends who have become family.”
