Crown Travel Students Get Paid Work Experience on a Cruise Ship Turnaround Day

On Saturday 16 November 2014, thirteen of our Travel students chose the take the opportunity to work for Renaissance Tours for the day. They were involved in the exciting and intense experience of handling a cruise ship ‘turnaround’.

The Celebrity Solstice was docked in Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour and her arriving passengers were all disembarking that morning and another load of passengers were checking-in and boarding for their cruise. As this ship can carry over 2,800 passengers, you can imagine, it’s a busy day!

The students were working in a variety of roles for Renaissance Tours, including:

  • Check-in Agents
  • Pier Directional Staff
  • Coach Greeters
  • Offsite Check-in Agents
  • Offsite Directional Staff
  • Airport Coach Greeters
  • Line Greeters

The students really enjoyed the chance to work with real travelers and for a real tour company and they got paid, too! They were based at either the Auckland War Memorial Museum or the Hilton Hotel on Princes Wharf.

This kind of experience is great for our students’ CVs.  Each student even received a reference letter for their efforts.  Everyone at Crown wishes to thank Renaissance Tours and we look forward to working with their excellent team again soon.
