Fukuoka Trip 2025

The Fukuoka Scholarship Trip is an immersive cultural adventure that takes students far beyond the classroom.

In 2025, we escaped the Auckland winter blues and into the summer sunshine of Fukuoka. Our group of seven students and one teacher dove headfirst into a whirlwind of Japanese language lessons, traditional tea ceremonies, world-class art museums, iconic shrines, local cuisine, beach volleyball, and vibrant shopping districts. Our visit to Fukuoka Foreign Language College where the lesson was engaging and accessible, helping students not only learn some useful Japanese but also connect with one another through shared learning. It truly helped strengthen the bond within our group and made everyone feel more confident and comfortable in Japan. We laughed, learned, got lost (sometimes!), made friends, and grew stronger together. It was all about stepping out of our comfort zones, building resilience, showing respect, and seeing life through a different lens. If you’re curious, open-minded, and ready for a journey that will challenge and inspire you, lock it in for the 2026 Scholarship trip to Fukuoka. Expressions of interest to be made by October 2025.

*Please note that while the 2026 study trip is currently planned for Fukuoka, the final destination city may be subject to change due to flight availability, accommodation, or other unforeseen circumstances. Any adjustments will be made to ensure the best possible experience for participants.

Student Testimonial

“Honestly, the whole experience felt like a dream wrapped in five days of soft light and endless wonder. We went to Fukuoka, Japan as a part of the Scholarship program and it was like the universe just paused for a second to let us breathe something new. every moment felt intentional.. the food (7/11 lol) the people, even just walking down streets felt sacred. It wasn’t just about being in a new place; it was about feeling seen and chosen to witness it. Tea ceremonies, soft laughs over lunch with our Japanese buddies, trying to speak the language and messing it up but still being understood. We walked through Dazaifu shrine that felt older than time, wandered aimlessly in museums, and shopped like the day didn’t have an end.

We went to the summer festival, where the air felt the drumming of drums, colours, and joy all blurring into one beautiful chaos. We played volleyball with Koreans on the beach, laughing like we’d known each other forever, the ocean right there like a witness to something rare and human. And standing at the top of Fukuoka Tower, the whole view glowing beneath us, it was like time stood still, we were so small, but somehow infinite. It was all so much more than just a trip, it was like a love letter to my soul. We learned so much, but more than anything, we came back feeling a little fuller, a little more connected to something bigger! Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it.” – Marco
