The Licence Controller Qualification (LCQ) is the nationally recognised qualification you need to work legally as a duty manager, sell or supply alcohol, or apply for a Managers Certificate under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.

What is the LCQ?

The LCQ demonstrates that you understand:

  • The Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and how it applies to licensed premises

  • Host responsibility obligations and how to manage safe, lawful alcohol service

  • Your role and legal duties as a licensed establishment’s duty manager, including compliance with conditions and customer safety practices.

Completing this qualification means you meet the basic training requirement before applying for a Managers Certificate with your local District Licensing Committee.
