We can help you arrange Uni-Care insurance during your enrolment process. However, you’re welcome to explore other insurance providers — just ensure your policy meets all New Zealand visa requirements.
Pre-existing medical conditions are not automatically covered. Cover may be granted upon application – if you have a pre-existing medical condition, please make sure you provide full details in your online application.
If you have already applied for your policy but the policy has not started yet and become aware of a pre-existing condition, please complete a Medical Declaration online to enquire about obtaining cover.
Your luggage is covered for up to NZ$15,000 in total, but individual items, sets, or pairs of items are limited to NZ$2,500 unless the items are specified and an additional premium is paid.
In addition to cover in New Zealand, the NZ Student Plan includes up to 9 days of transit cover from your home country to New Zealand. It also covers short visits (up to 31 days) to countries like Australia, Fiji, Cook Islands, Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga, Bali, and others.
If your visa changes from a Student Visa to another type, your Student Plan becomes invalid. You’ll need to switch to a Visitor or Australasian Plan.
Uni-Care has protected international students in New Zealand for over 20 years. The NZ Student Plan is designed to help when things go wrong while studying far from home. It meets and exceeds the Education (Pastoral Care of International Students) Code of Practice 2021.
Please refer to the policy document for the full terms and conditions of this cover.
If illness or injury prevents you from completing your studies or participating in travel activities, the plan can reimburse your non-refundable costs.
If you suffer a serious illness or injury, the plan covers your qualifying medical treatment costs, including diagnosis, prescriptions, surgery, and hospitalisation.
It also supports family travel if they need to assist with your return home, or if an immediate family member becomes critically ill or passes away.
If you’re forced to cancel your studies due to injury or illness, the plan can help cover non-refundable expenses and support you or your family during recovery.
The plan covers up to NZ$15,000 for personal belongings. Items over NZ$2,500 must be specified to receive full coverage.
If you accidentally damage someone else’s property, Uni-Care will manage the situation and cover the costs involved.
The policy includes up to NZ$5,000 to cover rental car excess liability — helping you avoid unexpected bills.
Important: If you decide to arrange your own medical insurance, please ensure it covers the entire length of your visa and complies with New Zealand’s Code of Practice and pastoral care requirements.
