Crown's managing director is Josephine Do

Dr. Josephine Do

Managing Director

Dr. Do, Josephine became the Managing Director of Crown Institute of Studies in 2020. She holds a Doctorate in Fine Arts, and is an internationally exhibited artist.

Before returning to Auckland in March 2017, she spent nearly 13 years at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK, formerly The Hong Kong Institute of Education), both as an academic and as a manager, heading up Community Arts Development and Engagement; and participating in Visual Arts Education Development.

Prior to her services in Hong Kong, she taught at The University of Auckland in the Undergraduate and Master of Fine Arts Programmes at the Elam School of Fine Arts, and at Manukau Institute of Technology. She completed a Postgraduate Diploma of Education at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2009.

 

She is the author of several books, and was principal investigator for a number of Hong Kong Community Arts and Audience Development Projects. She received wide coverage in newspapers, magazines, radio, digital media and television on her contributions to Hong Kong Community Arts Development and Cohesion. In 2011 she was awarded The 10th China Golden Awards for Excellence in Public Relations by the China International Public Relations Association. She has also served as associate editor for The International Journal of Social, Political, and Community Agendas in the Arts (2012- 2013), The International Journal of the Arts in Society (2010), and Multicultural Education Review (2010). In 2013, Josephine Do was invited by Radio Television Hong Kong 1 to host the program “Creative Cities II” (13 episodes).

She is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, and SKAL International New Zealand.

Puretu Puangi

Director of Pacific Area Development
& Head of Academic

Puretu has over 15 years of experience in tertiary education, serving in teaching, management and course development roles. Being a Cook Islander that is primarily based in New Zealand, she has contributed significantly to the Cook Islands community and looks forward to providing international experience to her motherland and other pacific islands.

Her leadership skills and versatility have gained recognition from industry leaders. She believes Crown’s pacific development initiatives will support and nurture pacific learners, allowing them to have access to quality education and training, thereby empowering them to become resilient leaders in pacific communities. As the Director of Pacific Development at Crown, Puretu’s key task is to develop a new generation of pacific entrepreneurs and provide them with the support and necessary means to become a leader in their respective home countries and communities.

ACADEMIC

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Education, (English Language)

Anetta is the Quality Assurance Manager at Crown. Originally from Poland, Anetta has lived in New Zealand for nearly 20 years and enjoys cross-cultural communication, summers, swimming and the great outdoors.

ZAMELIA MCGARRIGLE

BUSINESS, TOURISM AND TRAVEL TUTOR

QUALIFICATIONS: Master in Business Administration (MBA), Graduate Diploma in New Zealand Immigration Adviser, Chartered Marketing (UK), 20+ years industry

Zamelia is originally from Malaysia and came to New Zealand to explore new opportunities as a lecturer at a local education institution in Auckland in 2006.She holds a Professional Degree in Marketing gained in London , an MBA from the University of Wales, UK, Certificate in Adult Education, Graduate Diploma in New Zealand Immigration Advice. 

QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Computer & Information Sciences with First Class Honours (AUT, NZ), Master of Computer Applications (India), 19+ years of experience 

Prema has 12 years’ experience teaching tertiary sector in New Zealand. She was previously a Software Programmer and worked in several IT companies in India. Prema is passionate about vocational curriculum development and applied industry practices in education. Aside from teaching, she enjoys spending time with family, catching up with friends and watching science-fiction movies.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Sport and Leisure Studies, National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy (Educator) 

Eddie has 10 years Hospitality experience in Bars and Restaurants, before moving in Adult Education 7 years ago, specialising in Hospitality and Leadership training. His passion comes from seeing students achieve and be proud of their own accomplishments. In his spare time he loves playing and watching football, and spending time with his partner and son.

Originally from the UK, Matt has worked and travelled extensively around the world. He has been part of the Crown team for over 19 years and calls NZ home now. He is passionate about football and keeps fit by cycling.

Ronal is a former flight attendant and has an airline customer service background. Ronal enjoys creative writing, acting, ice-cream, and is interested in Pasifika tourism and learning about different cultures in his spare time.

Anne Marie is passionate about Scottish fiddle music, and is involved with both the Auckland Youth and St Matthew’s Chamber Orchestra, and has been able to travel around the world performing. She still works part time as a travel agent.

Irena has over 10 years of experience as an ESL tutor and also works as a structural editor for an independent New Zealand publisher. She is a mother of two and enjoys sailing, skiing and reading when she gets a chance.

Preeti is originally from India, she came to New Zealand in 1994 and has been in the hospitality industry ever since.

She has a passion for education and her knowledge and experience allows her to teach across different subjects. She enjoys painting as a hobby.

Originally from the Philippines, Caryl has worked, taught and studied internationally for over 10 years, including teaching at postgraduate level in Japan and  Philippines, and working in the corporate sector.

Kim is originally from Malaysia but has been a kiwi for over 30 years. She speaks 5 languages and is responsible for the finances of Crown and helping students with Studylink. She has worked for Crown for 31 years. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her grandson, swimming and badminton.

Paul Hagai has worked in Event Management Internationally over 15 years, he is a Cook Islands Fashion Designer and is the Managing Director of his own Community Organisation Aku Yanga (My Work). He has been on several Community Boards, a Youth Mentor & Advocate for Pacifica Communities.

Dion is a Marketing Officer at Crown Institute, and a recent Crown graduate. She is a hip-hop dancer and spends her weekends chasing waterfalls. She is also responsible for student services and social media at Crown.

Amy is our link to high schools. She is the mother of two and enjoys gardening and helping her parents at their market garden in Clevedon. She is also the Treasurer for ACATE Auckland Careers and Transition Education Association (NZ).

Pearl is responsible for wellbeing and careers support for our students at Crown. Pearl worked in the corporate sector for 20+ years, including as a GM and organising corporate sponsorship for large sports teams. She moved to Crown for a change of environment and finds her work with students extremely rewarding. Pearl is closely involved with her local community and has three children and five mokopuna.

Hugo is the graphic designer for Crown and responsible for all our visual communications, including photos and videos. He is originally from Hong Kong and is multi-lingual. His interests include Digital Design and Videography and enjoys hiking and nature in his spare time.

Ehsan moved to New Zealand with his family when he was 6 years old and has lived all his life in Auckland. A Digital & E-Commerce Marketing Manager skilled in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Social Media Marketing, Digital Marketing Strategies and Website Design. He likes to maintain a healthy lifestyle and loves going to the gym.
