At Crown Institute, our students are getting that ‘real world’ experience that employers are asking for, while they are studying. Jasmin Thienel (pictured with Peter Gordon), is one of our Travel and Tourism students and has recently secured herself a position at the award-winning restaurant Dine by Peter Gordon located in the Skycity Grand Hotel. By taking up this fantastic opportunity, she has not only met renowned celebrity chef, Peter Gordon, the man behind the restaurant, she is acquiring key skills and knowledge at a respected establishment. She will also have a definite advantage upon completing her qualification, especially when compared to someone with no work experience, and be more confident when moving on to the next stage of her career.
Crown encourages all of our students to find part-time work while they are studying. Many of our students gain valuable work experience organised by Crown during their time here and a lot of our Hospitality students work with Function Staff and build on the knowledge they develop in the classroom. Entry-level positions in retail or customer service are generally suitable for students who just need a bit of experience to give them the skills and confidence needed in today’s workforce. Our Careers Advisor works with our students and graduates to get them ready for all stages of the employment process, from CVs and cover letters, to interview preparation and job applications.
