Working Holiday and Volunteer work (WU, HU)
Examples of WorksUP jobs: fruit picking, office and clerical work, dishwashing, barista, nanny/child-care (you must hold registered qualifications for this work), au pair, labouring, house-keeping, waiter, cleaning, call centre, telephone sales, distributing leaflets and many more. Current NZ minimum pay rates are NZD 12.00 per hour. This is taxed at a rate of approx. 18-22% per hour.
Examples of HandsUp volunteer work: wildlife conservation, habitat conservation, endangered species conservation, pest control, tree planting and maintenance, team leadership, ecology education, protection fencing, track conservation. Please note that most HandsUP work is outside.
Notes and conditions
WorksUp and HandsUp do not guarantee:
* the type of work or volunteer project that you will be offered. You must notify us at the time of your application if you have a disability or health problem which may affect your work.
* the number of hours of work per week. These are determined by your WorksUP or HandsUP employer and will typically be 20 - 40 hours per week.
* the length of employment or project work. Your Working Holiday visa usually limits each job to a maximum of 12 weeks. Your WH employer will usually ask you to work for 12 weeks. Your volunteer work may be from a single day up to several weeks.
* the days or times of work. These will vary according to the type of work.
* that your job or volunteer project will be in a particular location. It may be in a rural area or another city or town.
* that the work you are offered will be to your complete satisfaction.
Crown cannot be held liable if you:
* are not satisfied with the type of work offered.
* are unable to fulfill the requirements laid out by your employer.
* are dismissed ('fired') or made redundant from the working holiday position offered.
* enter into a dispute with your employer .
* are not able to extend your visa / remain in New Zealand for the full length of your employment or volunteer work.
By participating in WorksUP or HandsUP, you agree to indemnify Crown against any claims, liability or costs arising (directly or indirectly) from your participation in these courses. If for any reason, we are unable to place you into paid employment (WorksUP) or volunteer project (HandsUP) after you have been accepted and have paid your full fees, you will receive a reimbursement in full and final settlement of NZD 270. Your Crown tuition and other fees will not be refunded.
